Mmm.... Belgian Chocolates

It was a sunny 30th August 2010 and I had a little day trip to Belgium. I know, I know I should have uploaded this AGES ago, but I was too busy, lazy, whatever hehe. (Anyway, It's not important) What's important is that I have now! ;P

So, I went to BELGIUM!!!! (It's my first time so I can be happy and excited okay)
I could have almost not gone because it had been a long day, a lot of visiting around but I insisted and so voila!!

Oh yeah I mentioned visiting right? We went to see friends of my host dad. A sweet girl named Lilou, their little daughter drew me this before I left <3 .

WELCOME TO BELGIUM!

Look at the traffic lights! O.O It's so complex!
(It's okay, you're not alone, my host dad thinks I'm weird too)
Waaaaa~....

It's a flandres building!
(like I mentioned before flandres were parts of the present-day Belgium, France and Netherlands)
They used to use the number of levels/stages... 层次 (I can't think of the word!) of the rooftop to represent their wealth. So the more levels there are the wealthier, as it was very expensive to have layers of rooftop back then.

Monuments? (or, more like a wall) to commemorate the Belgian soldiers from the war.

Look! WINDOWS! soo manyyyy!
I'm told they are all rooms, each to store food supplies and such for winter time usage.

It's a HUMONGOUS musuem! Sooo enormous I couldn't capture it!
(Probably like a million elephants!!! :P probably)

Side view

It's just really beautiful, I can't help it xD

Zoomed

Ah~... :)

The Cathedral!
(Take a deep breath)

The altar where the priest or somebody goes to give a... teaching or speech (I really am a Buddhist)

The holy light holily shining from the holy windows!

The art just speaks for itself O.O ahhh i sooo admire!

It really is really really gigantic

More holy light! U just feel so at peace in here~....
OH yeah, erhem! its around the height of 5 people altogether, maybe?

Every single one represents the most powerful noble person at different times.
(People like.... me? will never make it on the wall T.T)

A very respected manly man! A Sargent who willingly cut off half his coat to share it with a shirtless, sad, lonely, homeless guy on a veeery cold day while returning from war.

oh JESUS!

-Total destruction-
This whole cathedral was burnt down, all that you see now is the reconstructed version. :( I can only imagine how much more aunthentic and beautiful it was before.

The remains that were saved. Priceless!

Look, there's carvings on the floor!

Hmm...

It's like something out of harry potter! HAHA my favourite!

Mm... It's something, I'm sure :)

Yes! the place people go to clear their sins! (like in the movies!!! hehe)
It's like you go to the side and speak to the person behind the red cloth by saying, "Father, I have sinneed please forgive me for I have.....etc etc." and you are FORGIVEN! What a good system eh ;P too bad that doesn't apply in law.

Oh they have to cleanse themselves with holy water (so it really does exist, and I guess my saliva doesn't pass for it :[ ) first before seeking forgiveness!

A memorial specially built to commemorate those who have sacrificed whilst bringing glory to the country!

Miniature model

Side view

what? It's cute!!

The garden next to it, it's very pleasant, like a happy place for the souls to be.
(its not eerie! really!)

The streets of belgium! (from the garden)

The rare, kind and thoughtful things humans do :')

The entrance

All the names carved into the walls... there must be more than a few thousand

Poppy flowers
(They are to signify the remebrance of the dead soldiers)
A poet once described that the war field was the colour of crimson red from all the blood shed, which from a distance, seemed like blooming poppy flowers.

The great great great grandchildren still come to pay their respects and to write stories of their ancestors <3 !
Which is amazing really.
After all, how many of us really knew our great grandparents.

A shop dedicated to those heroes who sacrificed themselves in the world war.
(There's even uniforms from back then! but it costs like 800 euros = 2400+ ringgit , O.O I know!)

MMM.... lastly what we really go to Belgium for x)
(my chocolates are almost finished :S but not to worry! Apparently my host mum enjoys shopping in Belgium, so.... MUAHAHAHHA)
FYI, I am watching my weight! xD

The sweetest souvenir ;)
